I was kinda neglecting my poor mermaid customs for awhile there. I’m back to them now though! I originally spent a crapload of time on the scales for Bubbles here, but it really didn’t look good -_-;; They kinda looked more like fur than scales. So, I’m redoing her whole tail.
The enlarged section is the new style of scale I’m doing and I like it SO much better than before. It’s a lot of work, but it’s actually easier to do than the old scales since I’m using a tool that has a circle edge you can press into the Apoxie Sculpt. There are a looooot of other things I want to improve on with this girl, but the scales are the first issue.
Still working on Shairin, the Sasquatch. Adding more hair and more hair ties. Painting this hairdo is going to be a pain in the butt. I haven’t even really thought much about what color I want her hair to be. I have a feeling that I have quite a bit of time before I get to the painting stage though, so no rush on deciding ^^;
I think I’m almost done with sculpting Mo, the mosaic custom’s, head. The plastic spikes are actually pretty sharp, not my safest custom ^^;
Working along on Marsharoom, the mushroom doll.
Feu Feu, my Monster High/Picco Neemo hybrid fire fairy custom is finally all done ^_^
All of her sculpting was done with Sugru, rather than Apoxie Sculpt. Some of the advantages of Sugru are that it is colored, so no painting (though you can buy different colors of Apoxie Sculpt, I never have), also it feels soft and is a little flexible. It’s fun to work with something different sometimes. You can’t really sand it though and it can get scratched pretty easily, plus it has a very short shelf life compared to Apoxie Sculpt. Anyways though, it was fun to work with for this girl.
So, she is a CAM lab head on a Picco Neemo body. Her hair, shoes, top, and flame details are all Sugru. Her wings are Sugru over a wire and Apoxie Sculpt armature (just to save on Sugru). I made her skirt, but it was made out of a pleated trim, so it’s not like I did that much work, heh. I also painted her face and added glitter to her.
She was a fun project, I’d really like to work with a Picco Neemo body again, I just love the strange proportions of it. She’s also the first Monster High hybrid I’ve done, I should maybe try some more in the future :)
I tried putting Sundaena, the ice cream sundae custom, all together (even though all her sculpting isn’t finished yet). Her legs are meant to resemble a waffle cone texture.
As you can guess, her head is crazy heavy. I had to hold it to get her to stand. Anyone have any ideas on how to make very strong doll stands? I have a few head-heavy dolls now, and I would really like it if they could be displayed standing up. My skills are kinda limited though, plus I don’t have any power tools (except a drill). Any ideas?
Working along on Shairin, the Sasquatch’s, hair. It really is taking awhile… but I think it will be worth it in the end. I’ve started adding the little hair ties between her puffs of hair too.
I tried putting all of the patchwork doll together, and I’m really liking how she works. There’s something about her… slumpyness? Is that a thing? I’m not sure how to describe it, but I like it. Next I guess I’ll be painting the “patches” that are Apoxie Sculpt (the already colored ones were done with Sugru). I also want to make her custom shoes since she has one high heeled Monster High foot and one flat Volks foot. I also need to work on her wig and make her a custom outfit. Oh, and I need to name her, I’ve just really been drawing a blank on that one.
I’m still adding more “shards” to Mo, the mosaic doll’s, head. I thought having some on her face might look neat. I think it makes the sculpted part look less like a cap, which I think works better.
